Meditation is a word that has different meanings between some religions, between Catholics and Protestants the term "meditate" means to reflect on something, when one says "let's meditate on the word" they are referring to reflect on the holy scriptures, In Buddhism, for example, "meditating" is a set of techniques which, when performed, a state of consciousness is reached, called the "meditative state" or "state of meditation" and there are several objectives, one is to achieve what calls Samadhi, a breath of unspeakable happiness, supreme happiness for a few moments in meditation. Samadhi is very difficult to achieve, it requires a lot of training and a lot of preparation, it is not something that is gained as if one drinks a glass of water.
Let's pause to study that oriental type of meditation, from that set of techniques, we first have to assume a position and this is called Asana, there is that famous cross-legged position but it is difficult for us westerners to take on such Asana, we can sit on a comfortable armchair where the body will no longer move for some time and then, with closed eyes let's take some deep breaths, holding the air a little and exhaling, 7 times is enough, so with concentration let's silencing the mind, always keeping here and now.
It is necessary to differentiate the mind from the brain, the brain is the seat of the mind, when we think of a lemon for example, one can open the skull of the person that we will not find the lemon because it is in the mind, the fifth higher dimension .
Already a renowned Gnostic instructor said: "The difference between a madman and a normal one is that the madman speaks everything he thinks." Our mind is crazy, day by day we think wildly, we issue concepts, prejudices, most of the time we do not realize the amount of thoughts that are being processed. The mind has several sub-levels, one of them is thinking about having lunch because it is already time while the other is playing a song, the other sub-level has the memory of one account to pay, the other has a subliminal message of CocaCola , etc, etc ... In the practice of meditation we realize the crude reality of the facts and prove this.
In meditation we must silence the mind and this is different from forcing the mind to remain still, putting a "straitjacket" on it, if we put this "straitjacket" we are applying an energy on the mind to quench it and this is not the goal, our aim is to have a passive and receptive mind, then any kind of effort applied to the mind must be suppressed / avoided including that of the mind itself. It sounds strange but no effort is required.
In the practice of meditation you can listen to classical music.
Concentration is very important not to disperse, to bring the focus to the here and now, so that thoughts do not take us, it is not from day to night that we are going to be the "masters of meditation" so we will practice concentration techniques, we can put a black speck on a sheet of A4 paper and stick to the wall and focus on this point for 10 minutes every day, focus on the flame of a candle for 10 min, in a glass with water (no grooves), in the breath, choose a practice that pleases you ... 10 minutes minimum and the aspirant is dosing the time according to your need.
Meditation is the bread of the sage, so this is a day-to-day practice, it contributes to mental hygiene, the person becomes more balanced and has greater control over his emotions, consequently he will have more health and happiness.
